Last European Masters Spots Granted
28 players challenged Järva DiscGolfPark’s Major-layout and the monstrous winds that blew around the Järva hill today at 17 m/s gusts. Most of the players were after the five European Masters spots, which were up for grabs for the top players of the Qualifier. Some players wanted practice rounds on the Major-layout under their belt before the main event, while some were there just for the experience.
William Gummesson was the favorite from the start and he met the expectations. He took the lead after round 1 with even par (64).He continued with another great round (63) and finished one under par in the difficult conditions. Peter Bygde accompanied Gummesson in the lead card, separated by only one throw. He held on to the second place on the 2nd round with a score of 68. Both of them were disqualified from receiving European Masters spots as they already have spots in the upcoming Major.
Race for the Major spots
Patrik Eriksson joined the lead card for 2nd round at third place, trailing Gummesson by four throws (68). He lead his closest competitor Mattias Magnusson by two throws (70). After them the pack was tight. Anton Kappling and Kristian Kosonen (71) in the second card were only one throw behind Magnusson. In the third card were Rauli Lehtinen (72), Kymen Modig (72), Jimmie Nilsson (72) and Ludvig Sund (73). The gusts of Järva could act up and make or ruin anyone’s day.
Eriksson played another solid round (69), which kept him at the third place. Young Kappling’s spurt (67) notched him up to 4th place. Kosonen also improved from his 1st round (68) and made his way to 5th place. Rauli Lehtinen (70) and Kymen Modig (71) grabbed the last two European Masters spots. Unfortunately for Magnusson his second round didn’t match his first one while Nilsson and Sund couldn’t quite match the improving scores of others.
Congratulations to Patrik Eriksson, Anton Kappling, Kristian Kosonen, Rauli Lehtinen and Kymen Modig for earning their ticket to European Masters!
